Description

A submission for :iconkeronsprojectx: 's contest! ^v^ Sorry it ended up taking so long for me to submit it, things got pretty busy to the point where it took much longer than expected. T.T Hope the bio's okay! I ended up having a lot of fun coming up with her character! ^v^ Best of luck to everyone in the contest and I hope you guys like the character! :D The written word is not my forte, but hopefully the bio imparts what I was going for okay.

I feel genuinely bad for the guy who has to read this submission. It ended up being way longer and detailed than I wanted it to. >v<''
Well, here comes an epistle and a half! XD

Name: Abigail Rinzwell

Age: 11

Birthday: March 15

Gender: female

Race: Pekoponian

Physical description: Somewhat short for even one of her age, standing at about approximately 4’6’’ (approx. 135 cm). Her hair is a shade of medium brown with a slight auburn base to its tone. This is contrasted by her aqua-green eyes. Has a distinctively thin, small, pointy nose and freckles. Hair is cut unevenly and is typically unkempt, most of it tied back in a loose bun save for the bangs and a small section of hair resting against the right side of her face that has been wound in to a braid. Generally tends to wear jeans, loose-fitting shirts, and an oversize jacket. Why? Because they’re comfy and easy to wear! :D

Personality: Generally somewhat of a loner and content to be so, but not truly brooding or angsty in character or demeanor. She’s quite the tomboy and spends much of her time outdoors. As far as she’s concerned, her family and pet dog are all the companionship she needs. She sees little significance in others around her, nor why she would benefit from befriending them. Those who are dear to her tend to go away sooner or later anyhow, just as her father did… This view is challenged as the story progresses, as her horizons are shattered, broadened, squished into the shape of a ducky, and then spread out again with the great metaphoric roadroller of life. In spite of her isolated nature, she is truly caring towards those she holds dear. Truly an old soul, Abigail tends to be a bit more mature and independent than others of her age, but at the cost of having trouble relating to others as well. Her primary hubris is that she is extremely gullible, which is something that will be exploited all too well by certain individuals that are feeling rather impish…

Quirks/hobbies/other things we should know:

Loves boxing and hopes to become a featherweight professional and champion someday, and thus practices on a daily basis with a punching bag that’s set up in her house’s garage. Typically practices boxing in the evenings.  Between her ardor for fighting and her lack of association with others of her age, she can come across as a bit of an odd duck sometimes. This includes occasionally greeting others by punching them in the shoulder, a rare honor reserved for close friends. She realizes not her own strength.

While her parents are generally accepting of her, her grandmother has always made it her mission to hopefully convert Abigail into becoming more lady-like. One action through which she hopes to accomplish her mission centers around a porcelain doll she gave Abigail at age 5, however, she could never convince her granddaughter to possess a vested interest in the doll. Her grandmother remains determined nonetheless, however, and sends her new outfits for the doll in the mail quite frequently.

Abigail also despises when people call her “Abby” rather than by her real name.

Family:

Mother- Olivia Rinzwell- Hard-working woman and a master of the culinary arts; her daughter inherited her auburn-brown hair, determination, and occasional stubbornness. Has a good relationship with her daughter, but both have found themselves in difficult circumstances with her husband’s mysterious disappearance from both an emotional and financial standpoint. After word from Mr. Rinzwell to his family came to an enigmatic cessation, so too did the fundings sent home from his income decrease as well. Olivia works herself to the bone between making ends meet for their living expenses and being there for her daughter.

Father- Edmond Rinzwell- scientist who had been working on a secret project that had been the main cause of their moving to six months ago Japan (has vanished five months prior to the time the story takes place). Was very loving and supportive of both his wife and only child; his sudden failure to return home one day without warning or a single word from the company of his employment suggests something sinister was at play…

Pet Dog- Gwen- arctic husky- Abigail’s closest friend

Backstory and X Platoon “meet cute”/”meet horrible” story:

A former denizen of the state of Washington, Abigail’s family moved across the great Pacific puddle to Japan when her father’s occupation as a scientist mandated so. A month after their move, however, Abigail’s father vanished without warning. Her mother works hard to continue to make ends meet while still trying to be there for her daughter. Because Abigail is still trying to master the Japanese language and adjust to her new setting, her mother is currently home-schooling her. To help with her mother’s full schedule, Abigail often takes charge of tasks such a grocery shopping for the house.

She was out running such errands at the time on that very day…

“Milk, eggs, cheese, and basil…” Abigail studied over the list as she jogged back from the store, a weighty series of plastic bags in hand. “Yep, looks like I got everything.”

All of the items on the shopping list had their English name followed by a transcript of the item’s name written in hiragana, her mom’s way of hoping to accustom her to the new language she was still struggling to master. She snorted a huff out of her nose in disillusionment, loathing the task of learning Japanese was an understatement.

It had started to rain torrentially as she returned home, making it more difficult to run. She drew her hood over her, rushing to a bus stop for temporary coverage so she could briefly set aside her groceries to pull the umbrella she brought out of her bag. It was as she was fumbling through the bag’s contents for the umbrella that a conspicuously loud groan caught her attention. Following the source of the unsightly cry, she could faintly make out a small form at far the corner of the bus stop’s shelter.

Her aqua-green eyes dilated as she made her way towards the shape. It was of a green hue and appeared to be in poor condition. Unsure if she should speak to it and fearing what would happened if she touched it, she nudged the small figure with the end of her umbrella, hoping to turn it over when-

“OWIE! HEY, WATCH IT, DOODY-FACE!” The shaped screamed in a voice akin to a kitten falling into a cooler.

Abigail jumped back and readied a defensive stance.

The shape stood up only to fall back down again, grunting in disgust. It looked up disgustedly and studied the girl with large, glimmering black eyes. Abigail could make out the creature’s shape more clearly now. It appeared wet and amphibious, with bright emerald skin and a large, white spot on its face. The entity appeared to be a young girl of its species, with her delicate frame, bright, inquisitive gaze, and high, cutesy voice. She wore a yellow-green hat with ear flaps akin to that of an aviator’s, with a distinct badge in the center of a star split in to two separate shades, a matching badge affixed to her chest. There was a small tail that protruded from the back of the figure as well, which brought to Abigail’s mind the many days she had spent in summers past trying to catch tadpoles in the pond behind her old house.

“A-are you… alive?” Abigial ventured to ask, unsure of exactly WHAT the apparition before her was.

“Well, DUH, I’m alive, stupie!” The frog-child retorted. Her countenance then shifted to one of skepticism, “Wait, you can see me?”

Hearing the creature speak was strange enough, but then the shock fully hit her- that thing had addressed and responded to her in her own language.

“Hehe, guess I can,” Abigail grinned nervously and raised a brow. She must’ve dehydrated herself again; suddenly her mother’s incessant nagging to bring a water bottle with her when she went out made all the more sense. She looked closer at the probably illusory being and cocked her head, “but, what are you?”

“Nothing that’s your business,” the creature crossed her arms and raised her head with a small huff, “I’m Sosasa and that’s all you need to know!”

She struggled to stand again only to fall over.

            “Well, whatever you are, Sosassy…”

            “SOSASA!”

“Well, whatever you are, Sosasa, you look beat up. Here, I have some first aid and bandages at home and it’s only a block away. If you want I could run these groceries back and then pick up some bandages and medicine for you.”

“Hmph, no good!” The frog-girl retorted. “I don’t think your kind’s medicine would heal me all too well, and I might be a little dead froggie by the time you get back! Ohhh, the aches… the pains!!!” She cried melodramatically, reeling back.

“Well if medicine won’t help you, than what would?”

The small frog-like creature turned her face away, feigning as if she were to begin weeping, but in all reality to conceal a twisted grin that had crept across her face.

            “Cheesecake…” Sosasa whispered, “I need cheesecake…”

Relationship and interactions with the X Platoon:

Sosasa: First X Platoon member she meets, she ends up taking her in, albeit due to Sosasa’s begging rather than her own choice, of course. Sosasa tends to freeload a tiny bit off of Abigail and uses her master skills in manipulation and Abigail’s gullible and good nature to have the human child often do her bidding. She comes to equally look up to Abigail as somewhat of a big sister figure, though. Abigail, in turn, often finds her a bit of a bother at times, but in turn comes to respect her as a true friend as well. She ends up helping Sosasa learn to master her impact techniques a bit better through what she’s learned from boxing. Sosasa ironically ends up becoming quite the fashionista through her tomboy friend when it is discovered that the clothes that Abigail’s grandmother for the porcelain doll happen to fit Sosasa like a glove.

Kanini: Abigail and Kanini get along well due to how much they have in common, however, both are so quiet and shy that they don’t talk to each other much. They later become sparring buddies and give each other advice about fighting.

Wasusu: Abigail tends to look down on him a bit and is rather short with him. Has little patience with his short-term memory, thinking he does so on purpose rather than it being a true mental condition. Their relationship improves throughout the story as the two begin to understand each other better, but their first impressions of each other were certainly poor, especially given Wasusu’s constant forgetting that they had even met in the first place.

Seruru: Loves to play pranks on Abigail because he knows she’ll react. The two tend to view each other as mortal foes.

Yakuku: Sees her as an important asset due to the provision of lodging, and keeps a neutral relationship with her. Tries not to interact with her directly so she won’t think much of him, which is all part of his strategy to pull the strings from the shadows to use her as a pawn in a scheme he might have without her directly suspecting him. Often uses Seruru or Sosasa as minions to do his bidding when it comes to manipulating her. Sometimes takes part in pulling pranks on her with Seruru, albeit he never gets caught for it like Seruru does, much to his brother’s disgust.

I love how much thought and effort you put into this character. She has a realistic personality, a character that can be relatable. Also, her character design, such as her tough facial expression and stance reveal that personality. Abigail's clothing really suits that character of a tomboyish teenage girl who's quite the loner. This is absolutely brilliant! I'm really inspired by you, MissPeridot!
